Agenda:
The May 2004 Board meeting minutes were approved.
Membership Report
Bonnie reported that we have 150 paid members. Of the 150, 113 have checked Dulles as their primary chapter, 32 have no designation, 4 checked NOVA as their primary chapter, and 1 indicated Leesburg as their primary chapter. Bonnie advised that all members must let National SHRM know that they designate Dulles as their primary chapter. National SHRM only shows 86 members having designated Dulles as their primary chapter. We receive a quarterly payment of $6.00 from National SHRM for each designated members. Nine of the 86 have not paid Dulles dues, and 31 of the 86 are not in our database. Since National SHRM must hear from the individual member as to chapter affiliation, it was decided that we’d pass out the designation form at our chapter meeting and at new member orientation. Bonnie will make an announcement at the next chapter meeting and Nancy will send Bonnie the designation form.
Treasurers Report
Judy reported that a check for $15,000 has been sent to American Express for our investment.
Legislative Liaison Report
Mary Lynn reported that National SHRM offers attorney services. An increase of 5% per meal is expected next year at the Marriott. It was decided to stay at the Worldgate Marriott for our chapter meetings. Research conducted a few years ago proved that we could not get another facility anywhere near the cost of the Marriott. It was decided that we’d have three breakfast meetings in 2005, in April, June, and October. Kurt cannot facilitate morning meetings, so Cindy volunteered to do so until a President-elect is identified. The breakfast meetings will begin at 7:30am.
Diversity and Workforce Report
Evelyn announced that October is Diversity Month, and she suggested offering chapter members the opportunity to provide information about their companies to job seekers. Employers would profile their company, discuss current job opportunities and requirements needed, training opportunities and career paths. This would be an on-site event with a tour of the work facility. Each company would host no more than 10 people. The audience would be high school and college students, laid-off workers, individuals looking to change careers, etc. Evelyn will prepare an announcement for the July newsletter.
