Programs Report:

Amy was absent. Mary distributed the latest information on programs for 2004. Some sponsors have been added since the last schedule was distributed. January and February speakers are both firm. Mary suggested that we may want to consider administering a survey to the membership to get ideas for topics. We already ask for topic suggestions on our meeting feedback forms. Judy said perhaps that’s something to be considered in 2004.

Diversity Report:

No report

Communications Report:

Nancy reported that we have plenty of State Conference booth volunteers.

Workforce Education Report:

Evelyn is still formulating her ideas about bringing educational institutions into the workforce objectives. She’ll report on that later.

Certification Study Group:

Kurt advised that all study group participants have paid and he’s heard from one who reported the group to be going well. After the meeting, Kurt provided further update for the minutes. Instructor Eileen Taylor reported this class to be among the best of the groups she’s worked with. She’s also complimentary of the facility (National Louis). There have been no dropouts from the group thus far.

Old Business:

Cornelia sent word that anticipated attendance numbers for the State Conference are higher than expected.

The giveaways are ready for the State Conference (clips and mints). The chapter brochures will be ready by conference time for distribution. Thank you to Laura for her work on this.

There are still three board positions with no volunteers for 2004: Asst Membership, Certification and Scholarship. Kurt advised that Maggie Chan has indicated a willingness to serve. He will contact her. (Maggie did send in a form several days later volunteering to serve as Certification Rep next year.) Judy asked that we all encourage others to volunteer. We will finalize the nominations at the November Board Meeting and vote for the 2204 Board at the November Chapter Meeting.

Mary will bring proposed chapter logos to our next meeting.

Cindy reported that the Discussion Group on Workplace Violence went well. The Chapter Discussion Group for November (November 2, Succession Planning) will also be held at the American Press Institute. She also mentioned that Misti Mukherjee volunteered to help with Discussion Groups in 2004. We may want to consider Workplace Violence as a topic for a Chapter Meeting next year.

Judy advised that Bernadette won’t be doing the SIG Meetings in 2004. Judy said that SIG participants could be invited instead to Discussion Groups. Nancy suggested that we just drop the SIG altogether and include career development topics in the Discussion Groups.

New Business:

Mary Lynn asked if there was interest in a chapter visit to Capitol Hill to meet with legislative staffs and also with SHRM National and Government Affairs representatives. She will bring information about it to the next Chapter meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
