Agenda:
The October 2005 Board meeting minutes were approved.

Treasurer:
The current checkbook balance is $26,241.95. Judy Carter reported that all checks from the Certification Course have been received and accounted for. The financials for the HR Executive Event on Oct 27th had not been finalized. The cost to the chapter was $2,876 plus a $1,200 deposit. It appeared that we probably lost money on this event, but it may be worthwhile to spend Chapter funds on this type of event.

Membership:
We have 243 members; we're just 12 members away from a 25% increase in membership for 2005.

Programs:
The Board reviewed the 2006 Speakers/Sponsors schedule. There will be no Chapter meeting in June 2006, since that's the month of the National SHRM Conference. Speakers who are available but cannot fit in our 2006 schedule could be asked to lead a discussion group or serve on a panel for an HR Executive Event. Mary Walter Midkiff advised the Board that it's been very difficult identifying sponsors for our meetings this year. She suggested that we might consider providing sponsors with contact info on Chapter meeting attendees. Currently sponsors only get contact info if the attendee drops his/her business card into the sponsor's bowl. Mary Walter Midkiff advised that she's holding a meeting soon with several people to brainstorm ideas on obtaining sponsors. Mary Walter Midkiff has tried contacting "Toys for Tots" regarding setting up a toy collection at our Holiday Party. She's received no reply from "Toys for Tots". Judy Perrault suggested that we hold a collection as usual for Embry Rucker. (A representative from Embry Rucker will attend our Holiday Party.)

Diversity:
Evelyn Kaiser discussed her continuing efforts to match members with organizations that need their assistance. Denise Henderson will e-mail announcements regarding volunteer opportunities. We will be continuing with monthly community presenters.

Discussion Group:
The most recent discussion was held at VEC. Fred Levengood has expressed interest in holding meetings there quarterly. However, the Board doesn't support this. The December discussion group will be led by Misti Mukherjee and will focus on ethics. There will be no meeting in January.

Communications:
Denise Henderson needs items for the newsletter (this month & every month). She is also looking for info on the Holiday Party.

Legislative Liaison:
The Capitol Hill trip went well, with 10-12 attendees. Attendees went to SHRM HQ for a briefing, and then met with staffers on the Hill. Andrea Evans & Denise Henderson indicated that they felt more info up front would have better prepared them to speak on/lobby the issues.

Student Chapter Liaison
We are still having trouble getting student to attend. Perhaps the $25 cost for dinner is too high for students; 2-for-1 options were discussed. Andrea Evans attended a meeting at GMU. She found that there is little interest on their part, even for job postings. We also discussed fully absorbing the cost of a dinner if the Student Chapter President attends.

Old Business:
a. Nancy Streeter will send out an update on the Benefits Survey later in the week.
b. Kurt Cowles advised that the Board Social went well, and 23 were in attendance.
c. The Board reviewed the ballot for the Chapter's November election. SIG Director was made an official Board position, and will be filled by Cindy Loison (continuing her great work). At least 3 other members have expressed interest in helping.

NEW BUSINESS:
The HR Executive Event was discussed by Board Members who attended. Those who did attend say it went well. A longer event would have been preferred, according to some of the critiques. Some of the panel members are signed up to speak to our Chapter in 2006. Steve Mack will have the video of the event ready soon, and we'll have link to it on the chapter website. The fact that attendance at our regular meeting in October was lower than usual may have been attributed to this meeting; we'll need to consider scheduling for future "special" events.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm. The final Board Meeting of 2005 is scheduled for December 14th at the Dulles Marriott Suites.
