Benefits Flash Survey Currently Underway
July 29 Deadline
Contributed by Nancy Streeter, Steering Committee Representative
A group of Washington area human resources organizations is planning to conduct a comprehensive benefits survey during January 2006 with results to be published in April-May 2006. Anticipated survey elements will include health and welfare benefits, paid and unpaid absences, education assistance, training, relocation, reduction in workforce benefits, and a wide variety of other Company benefits. Several questions in areas such as consumer driven health, benefits outsourcing, cost management programs, current market trends, and web communication are also planned.
The Dulles SHRM Chapter is a co-sponsor of the survey which will be conducted by Palmer & Cay. In preparation for designing the final survey elements, Chapter members are invited to indicate their level of interest in survey participation and to provide input to the survey tool data elements by participating in a Flash Survey until July 29. Communications Director Denise Henderson will provide notification to all members via email blasts.
Updates on survey progress will be provided during the months ahead by Dulles SHRM Steering Committee Representative Nancy Streeter.

Article: Disability Mentoring Day Announced
Submitted by Evelyn Kaiser, Diversity/Workforce Education Director
Disability Mentoring Day, a national effort to promote the employment of students with disabilities through personal mentoring, will be held on October 19th this year. Disability Mentoring Day promotes career development for students and job-seekers with disabilities through job shadowing and hands-on career exploration. It is a partnership between the Office of Disability Employment Policy of the US Department of Labor and the American Association of Persons with Disabilities.
In 2004, 9,000 youth with disabilities from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico gained a first-hand look into career opportunities as they spent the day in over 1,500 businesses, nonprofits, and government organizations. In addition, Disability Mentoring Day activities expanded internationally to more than 20 countries.
This is an excellent opportunity to kick off a year round mentoring initiative in your community. To participate in Disability Mentoring Day activities visit www.dmd-aapd.org.

That’s all for this month unless you have any ideas or suggestions? This is your chapter - let us know what’s on your mind!
