Transition Board Meeting
As is our tradition at the Dulles Chapter, a Transition Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 6 p.m. at the Washington Dulles Marriott Suites, the location of our monthly meetings. Attendees will include the outgoing 2004 Board as well as the new 2005 Board members.
The purpose of the meeting is to transfer responsibilities and to begin planning priorities and initiatives for 2005. Chapter 2005 President Kurt Cowles will chair the business meeting. The buffet meal will include all meal preferences. If you are an incoming or outgoing Board member, be sure to contact Cindy Loison (cgloison@aol.com or 703-265-7520) by Monday, December 13 to let her know whether or not you will be attending.

Embry Rucker Shelter Donations Update
President Cindy Loison donated $40 worth of gift certificates for the Embry Rucker Shelter during October. The gift certificates were distributed to the homeless. Embry Rucker Shelter Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Wilson extends her sincere appreciation.

Dulles SHRM Fast Facts
SHRM Foundation Donation
At each monthly meeting, the Dulles chapter sells 50/50 raffle tickets for $1.00 each, collects the chapter portion throughout the year, and then contributes these funds at year-end to the SHRM Foundation. This year, the chapter contributed $350 in 2004 raffle proceeds to the Foundation. The SHRM Foundation is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that operates as the research and development arm of the HR profession. Learn more at www.shrm.org.
Dulles Chapter Membership Continues to Grow
Vice President, Membership Bonnie Little reports that Dulles chapter membership has grown to 198 members, the highest membership ever for the chapter. Growth exceeds 20% year-to-date for 2004.

Community Assistance
Dulles Chapter Diversity/Workforce Education Director Evelyn Kaiser presents November community assistance speaker Carol Thacker of PRS, Inc. PRS serves over 700 adults with a psychiatric disability each year. Center sites are located in Alexandria, Falls Church, and Reston, and at residential sites across Northern Virginia.
PRS was founded in 1963 to provide an informal social program for persons with a psychiatric disability who were being released from psychiatric hospitals and into our community. At the time, the community was unprepared to receive these individuals, and PRS was asked to fill the gap.
PRS, Inc., is now a private nonprofit organization with an annual budget over $4.5 million. Programs include day programs where clients master the essential skills of daily living, employment services, residential services where independent living is fostered, an evening/weekend program focused on recreation activities, and Compeer, a companionship program that matches volunteers with adults in recovery from mental illness.
PRS success is impressive. Although the national employment rate for persons with mental illness is 10%, PRS Employment Services placed 64% of clients in competitive jobs last year. Virtually all clients referred to PRS Residential Services on the verge of eviction have remained in permanent housing and off the streets. Revenue for PRS programs and services comes from a combination of government grants and contracts, foundation awards, corporate gifts, and individual donations.
